AI-powered Venture Classification Platform
2023 - openocean.vc & Saïd Business School - University of Oxford
Product Context:
OpenOcean partnered with Saïd Business School - University of Oxford to develop a venture classification platform. It will use artificial intelligence to classify start-ups, building powerful insight into businesses and their underlying technology. I helped them to design the product that will impress the end user with the overall experience while enabling them to "play" with the data while exploring clusters of AI companies.
The Challenge:
I conceptualized and designed an interactive data visualization system and dashboards
I ran design discovery and delivery phases (including data research, choosing the best plotting methodology, and interactive maps)
I collaborated closely with data scientist and developer to ensure the solution was feasible to develop.
Deliverables:
Ideation sketches and explorations
Design strategy
Studies
User flows
Wireframes
Information architecture
Low-fidelity prototypes
Iterative updates design
High-fidelity prototypes
Dashboards design
Data viz design
Motion design
Documentation
Design critique
Design system

Design of the animated donut plot that allows previewing multiple dimensions of the data set.

An interactive table view accompanied by secondary plots allows users to dive into a large data set and find patterns without problems.

A hexagonal map view that shows multiple dimensions of data related to geographic locations

Design of the animated donut plot with the multiple data categories and the details view

Design of the user flow

Some of the first sketches I made

Design study of the data visualizations in the light and dark mode, together with color-blindness test.

I made a lot of research, trying to find the proper data visualization method that will be both informative and fun to play.
